UnitedHealthcare CEO shot and killed outside NYC hotel

Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was tragically shot and killed in a targeted attack outside a hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday morning. The New York City Police Department stated that the shooting appeared to be deliberate and not a random act of violence, with the suspect waiting for several minutes before opening fire on Thompson.

The gunman, described as wearing a hood and fleeing the scene on a Citi Bike, has not been apprehended yet. The police are offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of UnitedHealthcare, expressed deep sadness and shock at the passing of Thompson, who had been with the company for 20 years. The company canceled its investor day conference following the tragic incident.

The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, with investigators looking into Thompson's social media and interviewing family members and colleagues. Thompson's wife mentioned in an interview that he had received threats, but the local police department in his hometown of Maple Grove, Minnesota, had no record of such threats.

Thompson, who had recently been promoted to CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was described as a highly respected colleague and friend by the company. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed condolences to Thompson's family and the UnitedHealthcare team, calling the incident a terrible loss for the business and healthcare community in Minnesota.

As the investigation into Thompson's death continues, the healthcare industry mourns the loss of a prominent leader, and the search for justice for his untimely death remains ongoing.
