Ukraine Accepts Peace Plan, Bringing Russia-Ukraine War Closer to Resolution

Ukraine has reportedly agreed to the terms of a potential peace deal aimed at concluding its ongoing conflict with Russia, according to U.S. officials. U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll confirmed to ABC News that while minor details remain to be finalized, the Ukrainian government has accepted the proposed agreement.

In recent days, there was speculation regarding a possible visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United States; however, a White House official clarified that no meeting with President Donald Trump is currently scheduled. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized the progress made, noting that further discussions will be necessary to resolve the remaining details.

This development follows a series of meetings between U.S. officials and Russian representatives, with discussions taking place in the United Arab Emirates. Driscoll’s team has been actively engaging with the Russian delegation, and Lt. Col. Jeff Tolbert, Driscoll's spokesman, expressed optimism regarding the ongoing negotiations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio characterized the most recent discussions as among the most productive to date, highlighting that while some issues remain, they are not insurmountable. Rubio noted the need for additional time to finalize the agreement and reported that President Trump is pleased with the progress achieved thus far.

Trump himself expressed cautious optimism about the negotiations in a recent post on Truth Social, suggesting that significant advancements might be occurring in the peace talks. As the situation continues to develop, both Ukraine and Russia remain engaged in dialogue facilitated by U.S. intermediaries.
