Trump warns Iran as ceasefire deadline approaches

President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran regarding potential military action, stating that "lots of bombs [will] start going off" if a deal is not reached before the expiration of a fragile ceasefire. His remarks came during a phone call with a PBS News reporter, emphasizing the urgency of ongoing U.S.-Iran peace talks that have recently become less transparent.

Trump's rhetoric has escalated in recent days, alternating between threats of military action and vague updates on the status of negotiations. On Sunday, he declared that if a deal is not signed, Iran's infrastructure, including bridges and power plants, would be targeted. This coincides with preparations for a U.S. delegation to travel to Pakistan for a potential continuation of peace talks, although it remains unclear if Iran will participate.

The U.S. delegation, which includes Vice President JD Vance and Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, previously failed to reach an agreement after a lengthy negotiating session earlier in the month. While initial reports indicated that Iran had no plans to attend further negotiations, later updates suggested that a delegation from Tehran might be preparing to head to Islamabad for discussions.

The current ceasefire, agreed upon on April 7, has faced increasing strain, with both sides accusing each other of violations. Tensions escalated further when the U.S. Navy seized an Iranian cargo ship that attempted to bypass a blockade near the Strait of Hormuz, a significant route for global oil shipments.
