The White House unveiled a comprehensive 20-point plan proposed by President Donald Trump aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas. The announcement coincided with Trump’s remarks at the White House, where he was joined by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The proposal has not yet received approval from Hamas.
Trump highlighted that the plan includes provisions for the immediate release of hostages held by Hamas, with a deadline of 72 hours for their return upon acceptance of the agreement. The proposal also outlines that if both parties agree, the war will cease immediately, leading to a suspension of military operations by Israeli forces.
The plan envisions a transitional governance structure for Gaza, to be managed by an apolitical Palestinian committee focused on public service delivery. It emphasizes the redevelopment of Gaza, ensuring that aid is sent in without interference, and proposes a special economic zone to attract investment.
Key components of the proposal include amnesty for Hamas members who commit to peaceful coexistence and a demilitarization process for the Gaza Strip, which would be monitored by independent observers. The United States intends to collaborate with regional and international partners to establish an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to support local police forces and maintain security.
Netanyahu expressed support for the plan, stating it could pave the way for lasting peace in the region. The proposal also aims to foster interfaith dialogue to promote tolerance between Israelis and Palestinians. While the plan sets the stage for possible Palestinian self-determination, its success hinges on Hamas’s acceptance and compliance with the outlined terms.
