Trump Reveals Plan to Compete in AI by Reducing Regulations

President Donald Trump unveiled his AI action plan, titled “Winning the Race: America’s AI Action Plan,” aiming to position the United States as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The 28-page document outlines a strategy focused on three main pillars: accelerating AI innovation, enhancing AI infrastructure, and establishing global leadership in the AI sector.

The introduction of the plan emphasizes the competitive nature of AI, stating that achieving dominance in this field is critical for economic and military advantages. The administration asserts that the U.S. must create a robust AI ecosystem to set global standards, akin to its historical success in the space race.

Key recommendations within the plan include reducing environmental regulations affecting data centers and ensuring that federal contracts are awarded only to AI developers who are perceived as free from "ideological bias." This approach reflects a broader effort by the Trump administration to streamline regulations that it argues could hinder innovation.

This initiative follows Trump’s previous actions to roll back regulations put in place by the Biden administration, which included the rescinding of an Executive Order aimed at establishing safety standards for AI. Instead, Trump has focused on removing barriers to innovation, advocating for a proactive stance in AI development.

Additionally, the administration announced the transformation of the AI Safety Institute, created under Biden, into the U.S. Center for AI Standards and Innovation, emphasizing a shift towards a pro-innovation framework.
