Trump increases self-deportation payments for undocumented immigrants during Christmas

The Trump administration has announced an increase in cash incentives for illegal immigrants opting to self-deport from the United States. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that the payments, which were initially set at $1,000, will now be tripled to $3,000. This initiative aims to encourage illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the country before facing formal deportation.

The program, which began in May, includes not only cash payments but also covers the cost of flights through the Department of Homeland Security. Noem emphasized the urgency of this initiative, stating that it allows individuals to return to their home countries in time for the Christmas holiday. She urged illegal immigrants to take advantage of the offer, warning that failure to do so would result in their apprehension and deportation by authorities.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, approximately 1.9 million illegal immigrants have voluntarily exited the U.S. since the program's inception. However, it is unclear how many utilized the CBP Home app to receive the cash incentives.

The CBP Home app facilitates the process for those choosing to self-deport, ensuring their flights are funded by the federal government. Additionally, Noem pointed out that participants in the program may have the opportunity to return to the U.S. legally in the future. The program was developed following the termination of the Biden-era CBP One entry program, which had allowed a significant number of illegal immigrants to enter the country.

As the holiday season approaches, the administration's increased incentive reflects its ongoing approach to immigration policy, focusing on voluntary departure as a means of addressing illegal immigration.
