Trump forecasts additional nations will join Abraham Accords following Iran attacks

In a recent interview on “Sunday Morning Futures,” President Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding the potential expansion of the Abraham Accords, which aim to normalize relations between Israel and several Arab nations. When asked by host Maria Bartiromo if other countries had indicated interest in joining the accords following U.S. military actions against Iranian targets, Trump affirmed that discussions had taken place, suggesting that several countries might soon join the coalition.

Trump emphasized the significance of the accords, crediting them with fostering positive diplomatic relationships in the region. He noted that Iran has been a central issue in Middle Eastern politics and conveyed a belief that Iran itself could have benefited from joining the accords, stating, “they would have been better off than where they are right now.”

When questioned specifically about Syria's potential participation in the accords, Trump stated uncertainty but mentioned his decision to lift sanctions on Syria at the request of allied nations, aiming to provide the country with an opportunity for improvement. He remarked on the effectiveness of a diplomatic approach, suggesting that cooperation may yield better results than adversarial tactics.

Additionally, Trump reiterated his hopes for Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords, highlighting the country's recent progress and expressing admiration for its leadership. He described the accords as a significant accomplishment of his administration and conveyed anticipation for forthcoming announcements regarding new countries joining the initiative. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff also indicated that expanding the accords remains a key objective of the current diplomatic efforts, hinting at potential developments in the near future.
