Trump Begins Negotiations to End Ukraine War Following Call with Putin

In a recent announcement, former President Donald Trump stated that he has initiated negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine. This decision follows a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which Trump described as "highly productive." In a post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that he plans to inform Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the discussions, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

To lead these negotiations, Trump has assigned a team that includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Ambassador Steve Witkoff. Trump highlighted the significant loss of life resulting from the conflict, which has seen over one million Ukrainians injured or killed since the war began in 2022. He expressed a desire to halt further casualties, stating, “No more lives should be lost.”

During the call, Trump and Putin also addressed other topics such as the Middle East, energy, and artificial intelligence, while expressing mutual interests in improving relations between their countries. Trump noted that both leaders are committed to working together, hinting at potential future visits to each other's nations.

In a related development, President Zelenskyy recently proposed a land swap with Russia to facilitate peace negotiations, suggesting that Ukraine could exchange occupied territories for others. This proposal comes amidst ongoing discussions in Europe, where Vice President JD Vance and other officials are meeting with allies and Ukrainian representatives to explore strategies for ending the conflict.

As the situation evolves, both Trump’s negotiations and Zelenskyy’s land swap proposal reflect increasing diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the war, which has had profound humanitarian implications.
