Texas businesses unite to support recovery after severe floods

Central Texas has recently experienced severe flash flooding during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, resulting in significant loss of life and extensive damage to communities and businesses. Reports indicate that at least 119 people have died as a result of the flooding, with economic losses estimated between $18 billion and $22 billion.

The flooding, which particularly impacted areas near the Guadalupe River, has dealt a blow to key local industries, including the camping sector in Kerrville. According to Mindy Wendele, President and CEO of the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce, the camping industry has a direct economic impact of over $40 million annually and supports approximately 1,100 jobs in the region. The devastation has raised concerns about the broader economic implications for the area.

In response to the disaster, local business and community leaders are actively assessing the needs of affected businesses. Wendele remarked on the community’s collaborative efforts, with various professionals volunteering to assist those in need. The Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce has established a "Rebuilding and Recovery Fund" to facilitate financial assistance for impacted businesses.

Numerous corporations, including Home Depot, Walmart, and Raising Cane's, have offered aid, with the fast-food chain committing $1 million to the Red Cross for relief efforts. Wendele expressed gratitude for the support from these organizations, highlighting the importance of both monetary contributions and gift cards for immediate relief.

As recovery efforts progress, local leaders emphasize the need for prayers and community support to help rebuild and restore the affected areas in Central Texas.
