Terrorist who killed Israeli embassy staff was influenced by foreign group

Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old from Chicago, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy staffers, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, in Washington, D.C. The incident occurred on a Wednesday night, with reports indicating that Rodriguez shouted “Free Palestine” during his arrest.

Rodriguez was previously associated with the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a leftist organization that has faced scrutiny regarding its connections to foreign funding networks, including those linked to the Chinese Communist Party and Iranian state media. According to a report from the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI), PSL and affiliated groups, such as ANSWER Coalition, have organized anti-Israel protests and have overlapping leadership. The report also details numerous contacts between PSL and Iranian state media, including PressTV.

Following the shooting, PSL released a statement distancing itself from Rodriguez, asserting that his association with the group was brief and ended in 2017. The organization emphasized that it does not condone the violence associated with the shooting.

In the hours leading up to the attack, an anonymous social media account believed to belong to Rodriguez shared a manifesto advocating for escalated action regarding Gaza, suggesting a belief that violence might be justified in the current political climate.

The incident has drawn attention to the relationships between radical leftist organizations and foreign governments, raising questions about the influence of such ties. Subsequently, some U.S. lawmakers have called for investigations into groups like ANSWER for potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Further details on the associations and activities of these groups are under examination as the investigation continues.
