Squatty Potty founder faces federal charges in child pornography case

Robert "Bobby" Edwards, the founder of Squatty Potty, has been federally charged with receiving child pornography in Utah. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced his arrest on February 12, following an indictment by a grand jury on February 10. Edwards, aged 50, has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.

Authorities allege that Edwards engaged in purchasing and receiving child sexual abuse material between March 2021 and November 2025. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, an undercover FBI agent reportedly identified Edwards during an online meeting where such material was being viewed. Investigators claim that in May 2025, Edwards used an online payment account to purchase additional child sexual abuse material. A search warrant executed at his residence on November 4, 2025, allegedly uncovered videos and images of child pornography on a cellphone linked to him, with some content reportedly downloaded just weeks prior.

Edwards co-founded Squatty Potty in 2011, inspired by a doctor's advice to improve bowel health. The product gained significant attention after appearing on ABC’s "Shark Tank" in 2014, leading to substantial sales growth. In 2021, the company was acquired by Aterian, Inc., which has since distanced itself from Edwards, stating that he has no current connection to the company and expressing deep concern over the allegations against him.
