Six killed and dozens injured in Jerusalem terror attack

A shooting incident occurred in northern Jerusalem on Monday morning, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals and injuring over twenty others. The assault took place on a crowded bus at Ramot Junction, specifically targeting passengers on Line 62. Eyewitness accounts depict a scene of chaos and panic as the gunmen opened fire without warning. Some survivors indicated that mechanical issues initially prevented the bus doors from opening, further complicating escape efforts.

The attackers, identified as Palestinian men in their twenties from towns near Ramallah, were neutralized at the scene by a soldier and several civilians who returned fire. Among the deceased were several local residents and a newlywed immigrant from Spain. Emergency responders described the aftermath as chaotic, with victims scattered around the vicinity and urgent medical assistance required for multiple critically injured individuals.

Israel's security forces responded swiftly, sealing off parts of Jerusalem and initiating a manhunt for potential accomplices. Reports indicated that the Shin Bet security agency had arrested a suspect in connection with the attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the site shortly after the incident, labeling it part of an ongoing war against terrorism and commending the actions of those who intervened. President Isaac Herzog and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar also condemned the attack, with Sa’ar calling for international support against terrorism.

While the attack has drawn widespread condemnation from Israeli officials, groups such as Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad have expressed support for the actions of the attackers. The incident has reignited discussions about security and the ongoing violence in the region, which has seen a history of similar attacks over the past decades.
