On Sunday morning, the United States Secret Service shot an armed man near the White House, as reported by the agency. The incident occurred around 12 a.m. when Secret Service personnel encountered a parked vehicle near 17th and F Streets NW, close to the White House and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. At the time of the shooting, President Donald Trump was in Florida and not in the vicinity.
According to a statement from the Secret Service, local police had previously issued a warning about a suicidal individual reportedly traveling to Washington, D.C., from Indiana. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers identified an individual on foot who matched the description provided by local authorities. The situation escalated when the individual allegedly brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation in which Secret Service personnel discharged their weapons.
The man was subsequently transported to an area hospital, although his current condition remains unknown. There were no injuries reported among Secret Service personnel during the incident.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is conducting an investigation into the shooting. The investigation will be managed by MPD's Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team, which is responsible for examining law enforcement officer-involved shootings in Washington, D.C. Further details regarding the incident and the ongoing investigation have not yet been released.
