RFK Jr. appreciates Trump for declassifying JFK files and criticizes secrecy

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently took to X for the first time in nearly a month to express gratitude to former President Donald Trump for his decision to declassify files related to the assassinations of his uncle, John F. Kennedy, and his father, Robert F. Kennedy. This announcement followed Trump’s executive order, which also included the declassification of files concerning the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

In his post, Kennedy emphasized the importance of transparency in government, stating that a government that keeps information secret may undermine citizens' ability to participate in democracy. He referenced a famous quote from his uncle, John F. Kennedy, highlighting historical opposition to secrecy in a free society. Kennedy criticized a longstanding pattern of government concealment, linking it to various crises throughout American history, including the Vietnam War and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump's executive order mandates that the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the Attorney General develop plans for the release of the JFK files within 15 days and for the RFK and MLK files within 45 days. Confirmation of Tulsi Gabbard as DNI and Pam Bondi as Attorney General is still pending.

In a broader context, Trump's order underscores a push for transparency concerning events that have significantly impacted American history. The King family also responded to the order, requesting the opportunity to review the files related to Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination before their public release, emphasizing the personal nature of their loss. This development marks a significant moment in the ongoing discourse surrounding government secrecy and historical accountability.
