Pelosi states Harris could've won primary and beaten Trump if Biden had stepped down sooner

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) shared her thoughts on the Democratic Party's recent loss to GOP President-elect Donald Trump. Pelosi rejected the idea that the party ran a bad campaign, but suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris would have done better in an open primary if President Joe Biden had dropped out sooner.

Pelosi acknowledged that Biden's endorsement of Harris made it almost impossible to have a primary at the time, but maintained that Harris still did a great job with the time constraint she had. Despite concerns about Biden's cognitive abilities, Pelosi did not urge him to drop out sooner, stating she had "no reason" to do so.

The former House Speaker seemed unwilling to accept the notion that Trump's victory was a rebuke of the Democratic Party as a whole. She disagreed with the idea that the party had abandoned working-class voters, stating, "No, we didn't. That's who we are."

While Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) criticized the Democratic Party for abandoning working-class people, Pelosi disagreed with his assessment. When asked why voters didn't see Democrats as the party of working-class America, Pelosi directed the question to Sanders, stating, "That's where we are."

Overall, Pelosi's interview highlighted her belief that the Democratic Party did not fail to connect with working-class voters and that the loss to Trump was not a complete rejection of the party. Despite differing opinions within the party, Pelosi remains firm in her defense of the Democratic Party's values and priorities.
