Musk states there are 150-year-olds receiving Social Security benefits

Elon Musk, appointed by President Donald Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced findings from a preliminary review of Social Security records on Tuesday. During a press briefing at the Oval Office, Musk claimed that the review uncovered instances of payments being made to beneficiaries reportedly aged 150. He questioned the validity of these records, suggesting that either the individuals should be historically significant or, more likely, deceased.

Musk emphasized the importance of ensuring that Social Security benefits are accurately distributed to those who genuinely qualify. He highlighted concerns over the lack of identifying information associated with some payments, stating, “Obviously, we want to make sure that people who deserve to receive Social Security do receive it, and that they receive it quickly and accurately.”

In addition to discussing the Social Security findings, Musk outlined DOGE's broader mission to eliminate wasteful federal spending. He advocated for a careful examination of government expenditures, asserting that taxpayer dollars should be allocated wisely. Musk stated, “If your taxpayer dollars are not spent in a sensible and frugal manner, then that’s not okay.”

Musk's statements reflect a commitment to fostering efficiency within government operations, aiming to ensure that financial resources are utilized effectively in the interest of the public. This initiative aligns with his focus on accountability in government spending, which he argues should prioritize the needs of citizens. As the DOGE continues its work, further details on its findings and proposed reforms are anticipated.
