Minnesota lawmakers assassination suspect identified

Authorities in Minnesota have identified a suspect in connection with a shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of a Democratic lawmaker and her husband, as well as injuries to another lawmaker and his spouse. The suspect, Vance Luther Boelter, 57, is being sought by law enforcement following the early-morning attack.

Boelter is reported to be the CEO of the Red Lion Group, which operates in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Praetorian Guard Security Services. Law enforcement sources indicated that he has been involved in projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the past three years. His academic background includes an undergraduate degree in International Relations from St. Cloud University, along with a Master’s degree and doctorate from Cardinal Stritch University.

The shooting took place in Brooklyn Park, where Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were fatally shot by an individual posing as a police officer. A related shooting incident occurred in Champlin, where DFL Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, sustained injuries but are expected to recover.

Authorities discovered protest flyers labeled “No Kings” in a vehicle believed to be associated with the suspect. State Police Col. Christina Bogojevic advised against attending related protests scheduled across the state, although there is currently no evidence suggesting that the suspect is targeting these events.

This situation has raised concerns about the potential for politically motivated violence, as highlighted by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. As investigations continue, updates on the case are expected to be provided by law enforcement.
