Intelligence report highlighted Iran's threat to U.S. but White House minimized risk

In a recent intelligence report dated March 20, the FBI and other federal agencies alerted U.S. state and local law enforcement about an increased threat from the Iranian government. The report underscores a persistent danger to U.S. military personnel, government institutions, Jewish and Israeli entities, and Iranian dissidents residing in the country. Despite these warnings, the FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) did not identify any broad threats to the general American population.

While the intelligence assessment highlights potential risks, President Donald Trump has downplayed the likelihood of Iranian attacks on U.S. soil. During a March 11 appearance, Trump stated he was not worried about such possibilities. However, in light of escalating tensions, he recently intensified his rhetoric regarding Iran, claiming severe consequences if Iran failed to meet U.S. demands. This comes amid a backdrop of public skepticism regarding U.S. military involvement in the region, with a recent poll indicating that two-thirds of Americans support a prompt end to military engagement.

The report also notes that Iranian security services have previously attempted to target Americans through various means, including firearms and more elaborate methods such as kidnappings. It suggests that the Iranian government has been using social media and digital tools to select targets, while also attempting to exploit individuals with legal access to the U.S.

Law enforcement officials are advised to stay vigilant and to communicate any concerning information with federal authorities. The report was made public through open records requests by the nonprofit organization Property of the People, emphasizing the ongoing discourse surrounding national security and foreign threats.
