Investigation Continues After Twin Falls Restaurant Shooting
Authorities have identified 24-year-old Chad Williams as the suspected gunman in a shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, that left three people dead and seven others wounded. Police said Williams died by suicide after opening fire Saturday at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The restaurant had opened a little more than a week before the attack. According to Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks, two injured victims were treated and released from the hospital. Two others remained in critical condition, while three were listed in stable condition. Hicks said the numbers were preliminary and could change as investigators gather additional information.
The names of the three people killed have not been released because authorities were still notifying their families. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder said one of those killed was a restaurant employee. She also stated that the gunman fired shots both on and off company property before taking his own life.
Police have not announced a possible motive. Detectives are interviewing hundreds of potential witnesses, and the FBI is assisting local authorities with the continuing investigation.
Officials said an armed bystander, identified as an off-duty law enforcement officer, exchanged gunfire with Williams during the attack. Authorities credited the officer’s response with prompting the suspect to retreat and potentially limiting further casualties.
Witnesses reported that customers and employees ran from the restaurant as the shooting unfolded. Haley Dodaro, who approached the drive-thru with her mother, described seeing people fleeing while crying and screaming.
Authorities said the investigation remains active. Officials are continuing to examine the gunman’s actions, collect witness accounts and determine the sequence of events. Additional information, including the identities of the victims and any evidence concerning a motive, is expected to be released after investigators complete further work and family notifications as the broader inquiry moves toward completion.
