The winter weather is expected to continue through the weekend, with the possibility of further delays and cancellations.
Winter weather has been disrupting travel across the United States this week. FlightAware reports that over 5,000 flights have been canceled on Friday and 8,000 delayed. On Thursday, 2,700 flights were canceled, representing 11% of US-based carriers' scheduled flights. Buffalo Niagara International Airport has had to shut down all flights due to hazardous weather conditions. The Federal Aviation Administration has also posted ground stops for flights bound for Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Reagan National Airport. For Saturday, 470 flights have already been canceled and fewer than 10 for Christmas Day.
Train and bus services have also been affected by the weather. Amtrak has delayed or canceled passenger service for some lines in the Midwest and Northeast. Greyhound and Jefferson Lines have also canceled nearly 30 routes due to winter weather.
Airlines and bus companies have issued winter weather waivers allowing passengers to rebook at no cost within a limited period of time. Travelers are advised to check flight and bus tracking websites for the latest information and to contact their airline or bus provider to rebook if needed. Winter weather is expected to continue through the weekend, possibly leading to further delays and cancellations.
