Hamas announces names of three hostages to be released on Saturday

Hamas has announced the release of three Israeli hostages as part of the fifth wave of hostages freed during the ongoing ceasefire. The individuals returning home are Or Levy, 34, Eli Sharabi, 52, and Ohad Ben Ami, 56. This release comes amid efforts to negotiate the fate of additional hostages held in Gaza.

Or Levy was captured during the attack on the Nova Music Festival on October 7, 2023, where his wife was killed. He spent time hiding in a bomb shelter during that incident, and his three-year-old son, Almog, has been living with relatives, reportedly inquiring about his father's return. Levy was previously taken to Gaza alongside Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American who was later killed by Hamas.

Eli Sharabi's situation reflects a tragic family history; his wife and two daughters were murdered during the same attack that led to his abduction. His brother, Yossi, was also taken hostage, and his family has expressed the emotional toll of the events. Sharabi's niece recently recounted the trauma of witnessing her father's abduction and the subsequent loss of several family members.

Ohad Ben Ami, a dual German-Israeli citizen, was kidnapped alongside his wife, Raz, who was released in November 2023. His last known communication indicated distress in the face of his captivity.

As of now, 13 out of 33 hostages expected to be released in this phase have been freed, alongside five Thai nationals under a different agreement. The remaining hostages, including five Americans, await further developments regarding their release in subsequent phases of negotiations.
