Recently, golf analyst David Feherty hinted at a possible announcement of a television deal between LIV Golf and the CW Network at an event in West Palm Beach, Florida. The deal, which is reported to be the first step in maximizing the value of each franchise, would be a major step forward for the breakaway golf league, which was funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and headed by Greg Norman.
During the inaugural season of LIV, which was held in 2022, the league saw eight events and was able to attract many prominent names such as Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau. This gained the attention of the PGA Tour, which responded by increasing its own product.
Despite the successful season, news has been slow since the season ended in late October. No new players have joined since the 2022 season concluded and the roster remains a mystery. Additionally, only seven tournaments have been announced from the expected full schedule and the Official World Golf Ranking board of directors is slow-walking its time with LIV's request for its golfers to receive points.
It is expected that the television deal between LIV and CW Network will help the breakaway golf league expand and gain recognition, as well as provide more opportunities for the players. It is yet to be seen how this will affect the season and the league overall, but it certainly is a step in the right direction.
