U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche recently concluded a two-day interview with Ghislaine Maxwell, focusing on her involvement in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex crimes. Maxwell's attorney, David Oscar Markus, reported that she answered all questions posed during the discussions without invoking any privileges or refusing to answer. Markus emphasized her commitment to honesty and truthfulness, asserting that she did not receive a fair trial and expressed hope that the Supreme Court would consider their appeal regarding her conviction.
Maxwell, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in Epstein's activities, faces a Congressional subpoena to provide further testimony related to Epstein’s crimes. Markus described the meetings with federal officials as “very productive,” urging them to consider Maxwell's statements with an open mind. He also noted that there have been no discussions about a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, despite the President acknowledging he has the authority to grant one. Trump mentioned he had not yet contemplated such a decision.
The discussions come amidst ongoing legal challenges for Maxwell, including an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court regarding her previous conviction, which her attorneys argue was invalid based on a 2007 plea agreement Epstein made with federal prosecutors. Maxwell is reportedly compiling new evidence alleging government misconduct during her trial, which her team plans to present to the Department of Justice.
