Keith Siegel, a 65-year-old American-Israeli citizen, recently released a video message expressing gratitude to former President Donald Trump following his release from captivity by Hamas. Siegel, who had been held for 484 days under what he described as "unimaginable conditions," was freed on February 1 as part of a ceasefire agreement involving Hamas, the U.S., and Israel.
In his video, Siegel emphasized Trump's role in his safe return, stating, “You are the reason I am home alive.” He highlighted the emotional impact of being reunited with his family after enduring severe hardships, including physical and emotional abuse during his captivity. Siegel called on Trump to ensure the ceasefire agreement is upheld, urging him to act to protect the remaining hostages. He expressed faith in Trump's leadership, stating, “Your leadership and strength will ensure the agreement is honored by all sides.”
The ceasefire, which began on January 15, was reportedly facilitated by a meeting between Trump's incoming Middle East envoy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Both Trump and President Biden have claimed credit for the negotiations leading to the agreement. Netanyahu, when asked about the leadership involved, acknowledged Trump’s influence, noting that he had sent a capable envoy to assist in the efforts.
Siegel's video was shared by Fox News, and it included his reflections on the trauma he faced while held captive, including deprivation of basic needs and threats to his life. He and his wife, Aviva, settled in Kibbutz Kfar Aza after immigrating to Israel. As calls for continued action to secure the release of hostages persist, Siegel’s message underscores the ongoing complexities of the U.S.-Israel-Hamas dynamics.
