FBI Director Kash Patel provided an update regarding the recent shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, confirming that the perpetrator, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, espoused anti-Catholic and antisemitic beliefs. During a press briefing, Patel characterized the incident as an act of domestic terrorism driven by a hate-filled ideology, which resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to 17 others.
Patel reported that Westman left behind a manifesto and notes that included various anti-religious sentiments. Specifically, he noted references to violence against Jewish people, including phrases such as “Israel must fall” and “Free Palestine,” along with explicit language referencing the Holocaust. Westman also expressed violent intentions toward public figures, including President Trump. The FBI has committed to utilizing all available counter-terrorism resources to investigate the shooting thoroughly.
Prior to the attack, Westman created disturbing content on social media, including videos and written works that demonstrated a clear animosity towards religious groups. In his writings, he used derogatory terms to describe Jewish individuals and expressed a desire to commit racially motivated violence. Additionally, he indicated dissatisfaction with his transgender identity in personal journals, stating he was "tired of being trans."
This incident marks the second shooting involving a trans-identifying individual targeting a Christian school, following a similar event in Nashville in March 2023. As investigations continue, the FBI is focusing on the motivations behind the attack and the broader implications of hate-fueled violence.
