Charlie Kirk assassinated during Turning Point USA campus tour launch

Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed during the launch of the "American Comeback Tour" at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025. The tour, which was set to include 15 events across nine states, aimed to equip students with tools to counter what the organization describes as left-wing indoctrination in higher education.

Kirk was reportedly speaking at a "Prove Me Wrong" table when he was shot. He was immediately taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, it was confirmed by President Donald Trump on social media that Kirk had died. As of the latest updates, law enforcement is searching for a suspect believed to be connected to the shooting.

The tour was designed to promote free speech and conservative values in academic environments, and earlier iterations of the event took place in states such as Florida, Illinois, Texas, and Wyoming. Tickets for the events were offered free to students and the general public.

In a previous statement, Kirk emphasized the significance of the tour in addressing perceived ideological challenges within academia, asserting that the "American Comeback" is a growing movement. He also had future engagements planned, including a speaking event at Colorado State University and an annual conference titled "AmericaFest" in Phoenix, Arizona, set for December.

The shooting has raised concerns and discussions regarding safety at public events, particularly those surrounding politically charged topics. Further details about the investigation and the status of the suspect remain pending.
