AOC Receives Threats and Vandalism After Voting on Israel Funding Amendment

Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York has recently faced threats and vandalism in connection with her stance on U.S. military aid to Israel. Following her vote against an amendment proposed by Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, which aimed to cut funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, Ocasio-Cortez's campaign office in the Bronx was vandalized. The incident involved the application of red paint to the office, accompanied by a sign that accused her of funding "genocide in Gaza."

Oliver Hidalgo-Wohlleben, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign manager, reported the vandalism on social media and stated that they are working to ensure the safety of the Congresswoman and her team in light of multiple threats received. Authorities have yet to make any arrests relating to the incident.

Ocasio-Cortez has been known for her critical views on Israel's military actions in Gaza. In her defense of the recent vote against the amendment, she asserted that it did not effectively address the flow of offensive aid to Israel while it would have restricted defensive capabilities. She emphasized her commitment to reducing military support that contributes to civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict.

Despite the backlash, including criticism from some progressive circles, Ocasio-Cortez voted against the final version of the defense spending bill that included military funding for Israel, reiterating her position on social media. Her responses aimed to clarify misconceptions about her voting record and highlight her focus on humanitarian concerns in the region.
