$810 million Powerball jackpot up for grabs in the new year

The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $810 million after no winners were announced in the final drawing of 2023. This makes it the fifth-largest Powerball jackpot and the 10th-largest US lottery jackpot in history. The next drawing will take place on January 1, giving players the chance to start the new year with a substantial prize. The estimated cash value of the jackpot is $408.9 million.

However, the odds of winning remain slim at approximately 1 in 292.2 million. Despite the excitement surrounding the large prize, lottery officials are reminding players to gamble responsibly, especially during the holiday season.

If a player is lucky enough to win, they have the option to accept the annuitized prize, which is estimated at $810 million, or take a lump sum payment of $408.9 million. Both options will have taxes deducted.

The previous Powerball jackpot was won on October 11 in California, with the ticket holder claiming a grand prize of $1.765 billion. Since then, there have been 34 consecutive drawings without winners.

The winning numbers for the most recent drawing were: white balls 10, 11, 26, 27, 34, and red Powerball 7, with a Power Play multiplier of 4X.
