Disney cancels Florida development due to DeSantis' policies

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' ongoing feud with Disney has resulted in the company cancelling a $1 billion development near Orlando, which would have brought over 2,000 high-paying jobs to the state. DeSantis has been targeting Disney ever since the company spoke out against his education law, which critics dubbed "don't say gay." The Governor has since signed legislation banning gender-affirming care and barring teachers from asking students their preferred pronouns. DeSantis also signed a bill targeting drag shows and declared that Florida would remain "a refuge of sanity and a citadel of normalcy." However, Disney's decision to cancel the Lake Nona Town Center project shows that the company is not willing to abide by DeSantis' cruelty. Disney's CEO Bob Iger has accused DeSantis of trying to "punish a company for its exercise of a constitutional right." The cancellation of the project is a significant blow to DeSantis, who is expected to launch a presidential run. DeSantis has been alienating one of the state's largest employers and tourism magnets, which is not the kind of stuff that can be put on campaign flyers. DeSantis' anti-LGBTQ laws are clear, and it's not good for business. Companies such as Disney are not willing to follow along with DeSantis' regressive policies. While DeSantis may have his versions of "sanity" and "normalcy," companies that have to do business in the modern world will follow the younger people who have voted in large numbers against Republicans in the past three elections. DeSantis is quickly learning that he cannot mess with the mouse.
