Frozen Organic Berry Recall Expanded After E. Coli Outbreak
A Chilean fruit supplier has expanded its recall of frozen organic berries sold at Walmart and Trader Joe’s stores across the United States. The products were linked to an E. coli outbreak that infected 17 people in Florida and Georgia, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. added more lots of Great Value frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend and Great Value frozen Organic Blueberries to the recall on Friday. An additional lot of Trader Joe’s frozen Organic Mixed Berry Blend was also included, according to a Food and Drug Administration notice.
Six people were hospitalized in the outbreak, and no deaths were reported. The Florida Department of Health first notified the CDC in July 2026. The CDC closed its outbreak investigation on September 21. The subsequent recall expansion covers additional product lots that consumers may still have in their freezers.
The recalled Great Value products carry universal product numbers 7874211226 and 7874211213. They were shipped to Walmart stores in 30 states, including Florida, Georgia, New York and Texas, as well as Puerto Rico. The affected Trader Joe’s blend was sold in 26 states, including Florida, Georgia, Colorado and Pennsylvania, and in Washington, D.C.
Consumers who have recalled berries are advised to throw them away or return them to the store where they were purchased. Because the products are frozen, they may remain in household freezers after leaving store shelves. Shoppers should check their packages against the recall information to determine whether they have an affected product.
Walmart and Trader Joe’s did not immediately respond to requests for comment, according to the report. The expanded recall adds lots from both retailers to those previously identified. It applies to the specified frozen organic berry products, rather than to every berry product sold under the Great Value or Trader Joe’s names.
