Time-Restricted Eating May Aid Weight Loss and Organ Health

A recent study has suggested that time-restricted eating may have health benefits. To practice TRE, one must limit calorie intake to a specific, regular period of time each day and leave a 12- to 18-hour window when no nutrients are consumed. The study, which was conducted on mice, found that 22 different tissue types throughout the body were affected, including the heart, lungs, liver, brain, and gut. Lead author of the study, Satchidananda Panda, PhD, notes that this could potentially help guide therapeutic TRE in humans.

Nutritionist and author Shereen Jegtvig explains that TRE can help with managing a healthy weight and reducing the amount of time that you can eat. Small studies have also suggested that TRE may improve risk factors for metabolic syndrome and heart disease, although this may be due to the weight loss itself rather than something specific about TRE.

It is important to note that, as with any form of IF, it is essential to nourish yourself with healthy foods during the designated eating window. Further research is needed to determine the full range of potential health benefits that TRE may have.
