In response to the growing market demand for effective anti-aging products, a recent study conducted by Chinese researchers evaluated the efficacy of a skincare emulsion containing 0.1% pterostilbene. Over a 28-day period, 31 participants were involved in a double-blind, split-face trial, comparing the performance of the pterostilbene emulsion against a control emulsion.
The study utilized advanced measurement instruments alongside self-assessments from participants, with the results published in the Journal of Dermatologic Science and Cosmetic Technology. Findings indicated that the pterostilbene emulsion significantly improved key skin parameters, including elasticity, firmness, and the reduction of wrinkles, specifically targeting areas such as the forehead and undereye. The treatment also led to an increase in epidermal thickness and a boost in collagen and elastic fibers while minimizing pore size.
Co-author Zhiyuan Chen from Guangzhou Luanying Cosmetics Co., Ltd. noted that participants expressed higher satisfaction with the pterostilbene formulation compared to the control, highlighting its superior anti-aging effects. The study's corresponding author, Xueping Chen, emphasized that these results provide valuable insights into the role of pterostilbene in skincare, endorsing its potential as an active ingredient in cosmetic formulations. The findings suggest a promising avenue for the use of natural compounds in the skincare industry, as the participants reported significant improvements in various skin characteristics.
The authors recommend further research with an extended study period to gain a comprehensive understanding of pterostilbene's long-term effects in skincare applications.
