Fromm Recalls Canned Dog Food Over Metal Concerns
Fromm Family Foods has recalled approximately 5,800 cases of two canned dog food products distributed in the United States and Canada following complaints about possible metal contamination. The recall, announced by the company and posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, includes 3,852 cases of Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food and 1,973 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo’s Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food.
No illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled products. However, metal fragments can create health risks, including choking, vomiting, reduced appetite, lethargy and stomach discomfort. Sharp fragments may injure a dog’s mouth or gastrointestinal tract, while larger quantities may cause a partial blockage or intestinal obstruction. Owners should contact a veterinarian if their dogs consumed the food and developed symptoms.
The affected Turkey Pâté is packaged in 12.2-ounce cans with UPC 072705118700 and lot code EP2A3306 551006. Milo’s Meatloaf Pâté is sold in 12.5-ounce cans with UPC 072705132324 and lot code EP2A3306 551029. Both products carry a best-by date of March 2029. They were sold through independent pet stores and online retailers.
Fromm said it identified the error that led to the recall and implemented corrective measures, but it did not disclose the specific source of the suspected contamination. The company stated that no other Fromm products are included in the action.
Consumers are advised to stop feeding the recalled products and return them to the retailer. Questions may be directed to Fromm at 1-800-325-6331 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central Time or by email at [email protected].
The announcement follows a separate recall by subscription food company Years, which is investigating reports of eye problems in dogs. Fromm’s recall is unrelated, and no connection between the two actions has been reported.
