More Than 4 Million Toothpaste Tubes Recalled Nationwide

More than 4 million tubes of toothpaste distributed across the United States are being recalled after federal regulators identified deviations from manufacturing requirements. The recall includes products sold under the Brush Buddies, Evo and ARU brands, including children’s toothpaste featuring Barbie, Hot Wheels, Crayola and My Little Pony branding.

The Food and Drug Administration classified the action as a Class II recall. That classification means exposure to a product could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, while serious consequences are considered unlikely. The agency cited deviations from current good manufacturing practice requirements. The information provided does not identify a specific contaminant or report injuries associated with the toothpaste.

The affected products were distributed by California-based Ashtel Studios Inc. and manufactured in India by Pritam International Private Limited. The recall began September 10 and was ongoing at the time of the report. It covers more than a dozen products in flavors that include bubble gum, strawberry, watermelon and cool mint.

Among the listed products are 409,800 tubes of Brush Buddies Barbie Bubble Gum Flavor toothpaste and 411,600 tubes of Hot Wheels Strawberry Flavor toothpaste. Three Crayola Silly Scents varieties account for more than 960,000 tubes combined. The largest individual quantity is nearly 798,000 tubes of Brush Buddies Whitening Anti-Cavity Fluoride Toothpaste with Baking Soda in Cool Mint flavor.

Other affected items include Brush Buddies My Little Pony toothpaste, ice cream-flavored varieties and additional whitening and cavity-protection products. Evo Advanced Whitening and Sensitive toothpastes, along with ARU Gum Health and Cavity Protection varieties, are also included.

Consumers seeking to determine whether a product they have is affected can consult the complete recall listing on the FDA’s website. Pritam International and the FDA could not immediately be reached for comment, according to the original report.
