Disney's "Zootopia 2" has made a significant impact at the Thanksgiving box office, collecting an estimated $156 million over the five-day holiday weekend. This contributed to a total domestic box office of approximately $294 million, which, while not final until all sales are reported, positions it among the top Thanksgiving hauls in history. Currently, the figures suggest it could rank as the third or fourth highest, surpassing the previous record of $291.3 million set in 2012.
The Thanksgiving weekend of 2025, although smaller than the record-breaking performance of 2024, still marked a successful period for the film industry. Notably, IMAX reported its best five-day Thanksgiving weekend ever, with global ticket sales reaching $40.8 million. Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, highlighted the success of "Zootopia 2" alongside Universal’s "Wicked: For Good," which added an estimated $93 million domestically, demonstrating strong appeal to family audiences.
"Zootopia 2" also achieved the highest global opening for an animated film, with an estimated $556 million worldwide, making it the fourth-highest global opening of all time. Paul Dergarabedian from Comscore noted the film's success is indicative of what family audiences are seeking in cinemas today.
As the box office approaches the end of the year, experts anticipate continued strong sales leading up to Christmas, with upcoming releases including Disney's "Avatar: Fire and Ash." This recent holiday performance is seen as a positive development for the film industry, which has faced challenges in the post-summer season.
