YouTube TV plans to offer a cheaper sports bundle after Disney dispute

YouTube TV has announced plans to launch a more affordable sports-focused package in 2026, following negotiations with major media companies including Disney, Comcast, and Fox. This new offering, referred to as "YouTube TV Plans," aims to attract sports fans by providing access to channels such as ESPN Unlimited, FS1, and NBC Sports Network at a price lower than the current average monthly subscription fee of $83.

Christian Oestlien, YouTube's head of subscriptions, emphasized the service's goal of allowing subscribers to customize their TV experience with genre-specific packages, including options focused on sports, news, or family content. The specific pricing details for these new packages have not yet been disclosed.

The move to offer "skinny bundles" comes after a contentious negotiation period with Disney, during which YouTube TV subscribers experienced a blackout of ESPN and ABC for 15 days. Justin Connolly, YouTube's global head of media and sports, stated that the platform aims to serve as a comprehensive source for sports programming, catering to consumer demand for more accessible pricing.

YouTube TV's current pricing has seen a steady increase since its launch in 2017, with its most recent hike occurring last December. In the broader market, other providers like Fubo and Sling TV have also introduced sports-focused packages, albeit with varying channel availability and pricing structures. For instance, Fubo's Sports + News bundle costs $55.99 monthly, while Sling TV's options begin at $60.99.

As YouTube TV prepares to enter the competitive landscape of sports streaming, sports fans will have an expanded array of choices, highlighting the ongoing evolution of the pay-TV market.
