"Weapons" remains number one, outpacing "Nobody 2" in second weekend

In its second weekend at the box office, the horror film "Weapons" maintained its position at the top, earning $25 million across 3,450 North American theaters. This figure represents a 43% decline from its debut weekend but reflects strong audience reviews and social media engagement, contributing to its sustained popularity.

The film faced competition from "Freakier Friday," which secured the second spot with a domestic haul of $14.5 million, also maintaining its position from the previous weekend. The success of both films occurred during a slower box office period, according to Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at Comscore.

The action sequel "Nobody 2" debuted in third place, generating $9.25 million from 3,260 theaters. The film, featuring Bob Odenkirk, follows the character Hutch Mansell on a tumultuous family vacation that reveals a corrupt town. Jim Orr, president of domestic distributions at Universal Pictures, expressed optimism for the film's future based on favorable audience scores.

In fourth place, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" earned $8.8 million in its fourth weekend, while "The Bad Guys 2" rounded out the top five with $7.5 million during its third weekend.

Notably, international films have made their presence felt in the box office rankings, with Indian action thriller "Coolie" debuting at tenth place and "War 2" following closely behind at number eleven. The re-release of the Japanese film "Shin Godzilla" also attracted attention, landing in twelfth place.

Overall, this weekend’s box office reflects a diverse mix of genres appealing to various demographics, though summer ticket sales are unlikely to reach the $4 billion mark achieved in previous years.
