'Superman' and 'F1' each earn over $500 million worldwide at the box office

Warner Bros. Discovery recently reported a successful weekend at the global box office, highlighted by two films crossing the $500 million mark. The new "Superman" film, featuring Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and David Corenswet as Superman, achieved a total of $502 million in ticket sales. Meanwhile, Apple's "F1," distributed by Warner Bros., surpassed $509 million.

This success is particularly notable for Warner Bros.' DC Studios, as "Superman" marks the first theatrical release under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, who took charge in late 2022. The duo has outlined a 10-year strategy aimed at revitalizing the studio's franchises, including new interpretations of Superman and Batman. Currently, the 2025 "Superman" ranks as the fourth-highest-grossing film in the Superman series, trailing behind Zack Snyder's "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Man of Steel," and "Justice League."

"Superman" debuted just two weeks ago and has continued to attract audiences both on weekends and weekdays.

On the other hand, Apple's "F1" has made its mark as the company's highest-grossing theatrical release, surpassing previous titles such as Ridley Scott's "Napoleon." Apple's approach has involved limited but strategic releases, with "F1" benefiting significantly from a partnership with IMAX, which included the use of specialized camera technology and a three-week exclusive showing in IMAX theaters.

As both films continue to perform well, their success reflects broader trends in the industry, highlighting the ongoing competition between major studios and the evolving landscape of film distribution.
