Stephen A. Smith, a well-known personality from ESPN, is set to broaden his broadcasting endeavors with a new agreement with SiriusXM. Announced on Wednesday, the deal will see Smith produce and host two new shows on the satellite radio network. One program will be a daily sports talk show on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio, a channel established by talk radio figure Chris Russo. The second show will be a weekly program that will focus on current events, pop culture, and social commentary. Both shows are scheduled to launch in September.
Details surrounding the financial terms of the multi-year agreement have not been disclosed. Smith expressed enthusiasm about his return to radio, particularly the interaction with callers, stating, “September can't come soon enough.” His new ventures will not interfere with his existing contract with ESPN, where he is a prominent figure on the show “First Take.”
Smith's influence extends beyond sports commentary, particularly among younger male audiences, which has sparked speculation regarding potential political aspirations in the future. Recently, he has participated in media discussions that venture beyond the realm of sports, reflecting his versatility as a commentator. Additionally, he released a memoir titled “Straight Shooter: A Memoir of Second Chances and First Takes” in 2023, further diversifying his portfolio.
