Stephen A. Smith expresses interest in running for U.S. president

In a recent interview with CNBC Sport, ESPN host Stephen A. Smith expressed a willingness to consider a future presidential run, stating, "I wouldn't mind being in office." However, he clarified that the aspects of campaigning and the political landscape are aspects he finds unappealing. Smith articulated that engaging in traditional political activities, such as networking and fundraising, does not align with his personality. "I'm not one of those dudes that's great at shaking hands and kissing babies," he remarked, emphasizing his discomfort with the demands of a typical political career.

At 57, the Bronx native speculated that if he could bypass the campaigning process, he would be effective in a presidential debate setting and would welcome the opportunity to impact lives significantly. "If you tell me that I could catapult to the White House… yeah, that's something that I would entertain," he added, highlighting his desire to influence not only American citizens but people globally.

In terms of his political views, Smith has publicly supported Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 election but later expressed regret about his choice, describing himself as feeling like a "damn fool" for voting for her.

Recent polling data from McLaughlin & Associates indicates that Smith has captured the attention of some voters, with 2% indicating they would consider voting for him in the 2028 presidential election. While his statements have generated interest, Smith remains focused on his current role in sports media and the challenges of transitioning to a political career.
