Rihanna Receives Oscar Nomination for 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' Song

This week, singer Rihanna earned a nomination for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards for her single “Lift Me Up” from the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack. This marks Rihanna’s first Oscar nomination. The track, which was co-written with Tems, Ludwig Göransson, and Ryan Coogler, was created to honor the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who starred in the original 2018 blockbuster “Black Panther” and passed away in 2020. Last month, Rihanna also earned a nomination for the Golden Globe Awards.

Rihanna will be competing against four other nominees for the Best Original Song Oscar: Diane Warren’s “Applause” from the film “Tell It Like a Woman”; Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick”; N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan’s “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR”; and Son Lux, Mitski and David Byrne’s “This Is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

The 95th Academy Awards ceremony is set for March 12. Rihanna is also scheduled to perform at the upcoming Super Bowl on February 12. A list of all nominees for this year’s Oscar awards is available online.
