Paramount and Activision collaborate on live-action Call of Duty film

Paramount Pictures has announced a partnership with Activision Blizzard to develop a live-action feature film based on the popular video game franchise, Call of Duty. This announcement comes as part of a series of strategic moves by Paramount following its recent merger with Skydance.

David Ellison, chairman and CEO of Paramount, expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting his long-standing appreciation for the Call of Duty series, which has sold over 500 million copies globally and has been the best-selling video game series in the U.S. for 16 consecutive years. Ellison emphasized the commitment to honoring the franchise's established narrative and distinctive style, aiming to deliver a cinematic experience that resonates with both fans and newcomers.

The collaboration with Activision marks a significant development in Paramount's efforts to expand its portfolio in the entertainment sector. This initiative aligns with the company's broader strategy to focus on high-quality storytelling and innovative technology, as outlined by Ellison in a recent communication following the merger.

In addition to the Call of Duty film, Paramount has made headlines with various other projects, including signing a four-year agreement with The Duffer Brothers, creators of Netflix's "Stranger Things," for a range of film and television projects. The studio also secured U.S. rights to UFC in a substantial seven-year deal valued at $7.7 billion, set to commence in 2026.

As Paramount embarks on this new venture, the industry will be observing how the integration of video game narratives into film will evolve, particularly with a franchise as established as Call of Duty.
