Over 50,000 toys recalled due to hazardous batteries for children

More than 51,000 "Lil’ Buddies Pet Laser Toys" are being recalled in the United States due to safety concerns. The recall, initiated by Los Angeles-based JC Sales, follows a warning from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) about the risk of injury or death to children. The toys do not comply with safety standards regarding button cell and coin batteries, as they feature an unsecured battery compartment that makes these batteries accessible to young children.

The CPSC's notice highlights that the recalled toys lack child-resistant packaging and required hazard warnings. Button cell and coin batteries can pose serious health risks if ingested, potentially leading to internal burns or other severe injuries. Currently, no injuries have been reported related to these toys.

The affected toys, identifiable by model number 24496, are characterized by a white design featuring blue paw prints and were sold with three included button cell batteries. They were distributed nationwide through various retailers, including VR Wholesale in Arizona and Viva Bargain in California, as well as online at jcsalesweb.com, between February 2023 and November 2025, at a price point of approximately $1.

Consumers are advised to cease use of the recalled toys immediately and to contact JC Sales for a full refund. This recall is part of a broader trend of recent safety alerts regarding consumer products, such as the recall of over 5,000 Graco infant car seats due to potential injury risks associated with their bases.
