Pete DeJoy has recently taken over as interim CEO of the tech startup Astronomer following the resignation of Andy Byron. Byron’s departure was prompted by a public incident at a Coldplay concert in which he was filmed in an intimate moment with the company's Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot. This moment, which drew significant media attention, occurred during a "kiss cam" segment and was humorously acknowledged by Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin. DeJoy expressed his intention to guide Astronomer past this unexpected spotlight, emphasizing the unusual nature of the situation for a startup in the data and AI sector.
In a LinkedIn post, DeJoy acknowledged the intense media scrutiny and stated that he would prioritize the well-being of the company's employees and the needs of its customers. He noted that Astronomer, which specializes in open-source data operations through its platform, Astro, has gained significant trust from clients for their ambitious data and AI projects.
DeJoy has been with Astronomer since its inception in 2017 and previously held the position of chief product officer. The company recently secured $93 million in funding led by Bain Ventures, indicating a strong financial foundation as it navigates this transitional period. DeJoy’s commitment to moving the company forward suggests a focus on stability and growth, despite the recent challenges stemming from Byron's departure and the viral incident. Astronomer is now in the process of searching for a permanent CEO to lead the company into its next phase.
