Netflix has introduced a new feature that allows viewers to engage in real-time voting during live events. This interactive experience will first be implemented in the reboot of "Star Search," which is set to air tonight at 9 p.m. ET. Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite contestants in real-time, reinforcing audience participation in live programming.
The feature was initially tested during the show "Dinner Time Live with David Chang," where Netflix noted positive feedback regarding user engagement. For the new voting system, participation is limited to those watching live; individuals who tune in late or choose to watch the event after it has aired will not be eligible to vote. This approach is designed to enhance the immediacy of audience feedback during live broadcasts.
To vote, viewers must use compatible devices such as smart TVs or certain streaming devices, as web browser users will not have voting capabilities. When it's time to vote, a prompt will appear on the screen, allowing viewers to rate performers on a scale of one to five stars. Each viewer profile can only submit one vote per performance, and voting will reset for subsequent performances.
Currently, "Star Search" is the only show featuring this real-time voting option, but Netflix has indicated that more live shows with similar capabilities are planned for the future. This development marks a significant step for the streaming service as it continues to innovate and enhance user experience with interactive features.
