NBC takes original Madden Cruiser on last Thanksgiving trip to honor John Madden

The upcoming Thanksgiving game between the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers on NBC will pay tribute to the late John Madden, a beloved figure in the football world. Madden's legacy will be honored with the appearance of the original Madden Cruiser, which traveled from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, to Lambeau Field last week.

Lambeau Field held a special place in Madden's heart, making this Thanksgiving game on NBC even more meaningful. The idea of bringing the Madden Cruiser out of retirement was first discussed during NBC's "Sunday Night Football" production meetings in June. Madden had donated the cruiser to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

During its trip through the Midwest, the Madden Cruiser made stops in Chicago and at a Boys & Girls Club in Wisconsin before arriving at Lambeau Field. J.J. Johnson, who drove for Madden during his broadcast career, drove the cruiser and narrated the opening segment for NBC.

Madden's impact on the NFL and broadcasting continues to be felt, even after his retirement in 2008. NBC will honor Madden during all three Thanksgiving games, continuing a tradition that began after his passing in 2021. The network will award turkey legs to the game's most valuable players and turduckens to the winning team, prepared by former Packers player Leroy Butler.

Overall, Madden's love for football and family shines through in the Thanksgiving celebration on NBC. His curiosity, storytelling, and passion for the game have left a lasting legacy that continues to inspire those who worked with him. As NBC and the NFL come together to honor Madden's memory, fans can expect a heartfelt tribute to a true legend of the sport.
