Movie theaters and stars urge calm during 'Minecraft' screenings

The Regal Oviedo theater in Florida is addressing disruptive behaviors during screenings of "A Minecraft Movie," a trend that has emerged alongside the film's popularity. Josh Gunderson, the director of marketing and events at Oviedo Mall, noted that the movie-going experience has evolved significantly, influenced in part by social media platforms like TikTok.

Disruptive actions, including yelling and throwing objects during the film, have been reported, prompting Gunderson to issue a public call for these behaviors to cease. He highlighted concerns that such disruptions not only detract from the viewing experience but also cause damage to the newly renovated theater.

Gunderson mentioned that implementing a "no unaccompanied minors" policy would be within the purview of Regal Cinemas. However, the mall has expressed willingness to support the theater in enforcing this policy if disruptive incidents continue.

Similar disturbances have been noted in other locations, including B&B Theatres in Kansas City and Springs Cinema & Taphouse in Georgia. Staff at these venues have dealt with cleanup efforts following chaotic events during specific scenes in the film.

In response to the trend, actor Jack Black, who voices a character in the movie, has publicly discouraged such behavior during a recent appearance at a Los Angeles screening.

"A Minecraft Movie," released on April 4, has achieved significant box office success, grossing over $557 million worldwide. To accommodate fans who wish to express their excitement, Regal Cinemas is organizing special "Chicken Jockey Screenings" on April 20, promoting a balance between enthusiasm and appropriate conduct in theaters.
