'Minecraft Movie' earns $80.6 million in its second weekend

In its first two weeks in theaters, "A Minecraft Movie" has achieved remarkable commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Hollywood release of 2025. The Warner Bros. adaptation of the popular video game grossed $80.6 million in its second weekend alone, bringing its worldwide total to over $550 million, following an impressive $300 million global debut.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 46% and a “B+” CinemaScore from audiences, "A Minecraft Movie" has attracted significant viewership. Directed by Jared Hess and featuring stars like Jack Black and Jason Momoa, the film managed to maintain a 50% drop in ticket sales during its second weekend, a strong performance for a major release.

The film’s success has contributed to a rebound in overall box office performance, which saw ticket sales double compared to the same weekend in 2024. Prior to the film's release, box office revenues were trailing last year's figures by 11%, but they have now nearly caught up, although 2025 totals still lag behind 2019 by 31%.

In contrast, the weekend's new releases failed to challenge "A Minecraft Movie." "The King of Kings," an animated film about Jesus aimed at Christian audiences, earned $19.1 million to secure the second spot. Meanwhile, "The Amateur," starring Rami Malek, debuted with $15 million, and "Warfare," directed by Alex Garland, opened at $8.3 million. Other new films such as "Drop" and "The Chosen: Last Supper (Part 3)" also premiered but did not reach the same level of box office success.

As the box office landscape evolves, "A Minecraft Movie" continues to lead, reflecting the growing interest in high-budget film adaptations of video games.
