Lin-Manuel Miranda plans 'Hamilton' 10th anniversary fundraiser for immigration services

Lin-Manuel Miranda is set to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his acclaimed Broadway musical “Hamilton” with a special performance on August 6 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, which will serve as a fundraiser for the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition. This coalition comprises 14 nonprofit organizations dedicated to providing immigration services, including the Hispanic Federation and the National Immigration Law Center. The event is anticipated to generate approximately $3 million, funded by Miranda, the Miranda Family Fund, and the cast of “Hamilton.”

Miranda has articulated that the anniversary performance is a tribute to both the musical and its inspiration, Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, who, despite not identifying as an immigrant himself, shares a narrative reflective of immigrant experiences in America. In conjunction with the performance, an invite-only reception will precede the show, with special plans for the curtain call involving previous cast members.

The majority of invitations to attend the performance will be awarded through a Prizeo sweepstakes, where participants contribute a minimum of $10 to the coalition. Additionally, a limited number of VIP packages will be available for purchase, with proceeds also benefiting the coalition.

The fundraising efforts come at a time when immigrant advocacy organizations report a decline in federal funding due to policy changes under the Trump administration, which has intensified immigration enforcement. Leaders from various nonprofits have expressed optimism regarding the support generated by the event, highlighting the importance of ongoing community engagement and legal services for vulnerable populations.

Miranda has noted the enduring appeal of the line “Immigrants: We get the job done” from the musical, reflecting a broader sentiment about the significance of immigration in American society.
