In a recent court appearance, Justin Timberlake entered a not-guilty plea in his drunken driving case on Long Island. The former NSYNC singer was arrested in Sag Harbor on June 18 after allegedly running a stop sign, veering out of his lane, and smelling of alcohol. His attorney, Edward Burke Jr., has maintained that Timberlake was not intoxicated and believes the case should be dropped.
During the court proceeding, Timberlake made a virtual appearance as he is currently on tour in Europe. The judge accepted his not-guilty plea and suspended his right to drive in New York. Timberlake’s Tennessee driver’s license in New York state was also suspended, and a next court date was set for August 9.
The assistant district attorney stated that new documents were filed to address a paperwork oversight regarding the original charging document lacking a police sergeant’s signature. Timberlake had previously appeared in court in person, but his arraignment needed to be repeated due to this oversight.
Police reports indicate that Timberlake exhibited signs of intoxication during the incident, including bloodshot and glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slowed speech, unsteadiness, and poor performance on field sobriety tests. Timberlake allegedly told the officer that he had consumed one martini and was following friends home before being arrested and spending the night in police custody.
Despite the allegations and charges, Timberlake’s attorney continues to assert his client’s innocence, stating that he was not intoxicated during the incident. The case remains ongoing, with Timberlake’s driving privileges in New York suspended until further legal proceedings.
